Pediatric and Adult Vaccination

Vaccination works by stimulating the immune system, the natural system of the body to fight diseases. Our body is exposed to infection so that we develop immunity to it. The healthy immune system is able to recognize the invading viruses and bacteria, and produces antibodies to fight and destroy them. Vaccinations are given orally or by injection. The greatest advantage of vaccines is that we are able to develop immunity to many dangerous diseases by taking only a weak version of the infection without getting the full-blown disease.

Every child requires vaccination starting from age 2 to 12 months. Immunization is the most effective method to protect your child from certain serious infections. If your child is immunized against a disease, the chances of getting that illness are extremely reduced.

Some vaccines that are essential for children and young adolescents are:

  • + DTaP: To fight diphtheria and whooping cough.
  • + IPV: To protect against polio.
  • + Rotavirus: To protect against rotavirus diseases such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and dehydration.
  • + Hepatitis A and B: To protect against liver disease caused by the Hepatitis A and B viruses.
  • + MMR: To protect against mumps, measles, and rubella.
  • + Varicella: To protect against chickenpox.
  • + Tdap: To protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.
  • + MCV and HPV vaccines.
Adults require immunization as well. Over time, the immunity to pertussis, diphtheria, and tetanus can wear off. Other vaccines are also required based on age, lifestyle, and other factors.

Some vaccines for adults are:

  • + Tdap
  • + Hepatitis B
  • + MMR
  • + Varicella
