Be Heart healthy
The hectic life we lead today, torn between stresses and strains increases our risks of a heart attack. Our sedentary lifestyle adds to that and puts us on a high risk category. Making some lifestyle changes hereon will help your heart beat longer.

Take small steps towards keeping your heart healthy; eat right, give up smoking, exercise daily, relax and de-stress as often as you can. Make a conscious effort to sneak in some health for your heart in your busy day.

Eat Smart
Consult your doctor for a diet plan that best suits your dietary needs. Try to minimize the amount of cholesterol in your diet, your body creates the appropriate amount of cholesterol for you, so it doesn`t need any additional cholesterol from your food intake. Switching to fish and poultry from red meat will help. Use egg whites instead of the whole egg. Calorie dense foods like sweets, fast food, refined food and processed food make your heart sluggish, avoid them. Don`t forget that you can enjoy the taste of eating right. Include more of vegetables, fruits, salads, sprouts, nuts and healthy snacks in your diet. Healthy food can be delicious!

Be a non-smoker
The decision to be a non-smoker will make a huge difference to your health and your life. Smoking is the top controllable risk factor for heart disease. Shun the killer habit for your health and of those around you. Chew a gum or a mint when you feel the urge to light up a cigarette. Drink lots of water. It will help flush the nicotine and other chemicals out of your body and help reduce the craving. Support and guidance from a physician is a proven way to better your chances to quit.

Exercise
You may exercise with a friend to make your fitness routine more enjoyable. Climb up the staircase, instead of stepping into the lift. Parking your car at a distance so that you can walk a bit, before you get glued to your work chair can be a good idea. Choose yoga in the lawn over working out at a gym, that’s good too.

Relax and de-stress
Put your feet up and listen to some music.  Chill out with friends, get out for the weekend, get creative, take a walk in the green, carry a smile, play a game with your kid, get a pet, pamper yourself at a spa, watch a funny movie, laugh out loud. Take your pick from these stress busters. Stress busters help relieve stress and promote the healthy function of blood vessels. Try meditation and spirituality, they lend to a healthier existence.

A little effort in the right direction can be life changing. Resolve to care for your heart, make small and gradual changes to a healthier lifestyle.
